What will a user see/hear if none of the dynamic lines in a section can play?

Sometimes none of the lines in the dynamic section of a Script match for the user who will see/hear the ad - you can choose what should happen in this scenario

Dynamic sections in Studio contain a number of lines. Each line is associated with a piece of media and the conditions for when that media should play are configured (e.g. Play this piece of media when the Day of Week is "Sunday").

When the script goes live the A Million Ads Platform receives requests for ads,  compares data about these requests to the conditions of each dynamic line and provides a response.

Typically this means selecting the line from each dynamic section that matches the user who will see/hear the ad. In the below example the A Million Ads Platform will select the "Weekday" line/audio when it responds to ad requests on Mondays-Fridays and the "Weekend" line/audio when it responds to ad requests on Saturdays and Sundays.

There are two scenarios none of the lines in a dynamic section match the user who will see/hear it:

  1. The dynamic section does not contain a line for all possible scenarios. In the below example none of the lines have been set up to play on Tuesdays.

  2. The A Million Ads Platform was unable to get the data it needed from the ad request to select a line. For example, some Rules in Studio require the A Million Ads Platform to know the Location, Device Type or ISP of the user which is not always possible

In either scenario there are 4 options available:

Play the default line (recommended)
Use the star icon to select a default line that should be selected to play when none match for the user who will see/hear the ad.

Play the first line
The first line in the section will be selected to play when none match for the user who will see/hear the ad.

Don't play a line from this section

No lines from the section will be selected to play when none match for the user who will see/hear the ad.

Don’t serve an ad
The A Million Ads Platform will respond to the ad request but will not include any ad in its response when no lines from the section match for the user who will see/hear the ad.

This option should only be used when the Platform that has been selected for the script supports returning an empty VAST response.
